Tillicum Tiger Family Update: May & June
Dear Tillicum Families,
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, May and June are filled with meaningful learning, celebrations, and important transitions. This is a time for our students to finish strong—both academically and in how they show up each day as Tillicum Tigers.
Important Dates
- May 4–8th – Staff Appreciation Week, Smarter Balanced Assessment Begins Testing Window (Grades 3–5)
- May 22 and 25th – No School (Memorial Day)
- June 5th – Field Day
- June 9th (Starts at 2PM)– 5th Grade Promotion Celebration
- June 10th – Last Day of School (Early Dismissal)
Finish Strong: The Tillicum Way
We are continuing to emphasize what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe in all settings—classrooms, playground, cafeteria, and online spaces.
- Respectful: Kind words, positive interactions, and valuing others
- Responsible: Giving best effort, following directions, and completing work
- Safe: Making choices that keep self and others physically and emotionally safe
We ask families to partner with us by reinforcing these expectations at home. Together, we can ensure that every student ends the year with pride and purpose.
Academic Focus
Learning continues all the way through the last day of school. Students will be:
- Engaging in meaningful reading and math practice
- Participating in SBA assessments (grades 3–5)
- Applying skills through projects, small groups, and targeted support
Encouraging your child to read daily and stay engaged makes a big difference during these final weeks.
5th Grade Transition to Middle School
We are incredibly proud of our 5th grade students as they prepare for their transition to 6th grade. This is an exciting milestone!
Over the next several weeks, students will:
- Participate in transition activities to prepare for middle school expectations
- Learn about organization, independence, and goal setting
- Celebrate their time at Tillicum during our 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony on June 9th
Families can support this transition by:
- Talking with your child about the opportunities and responsibilities ahead
- Encouraging independence and organization
- Celebrating their growth and accomplishments
Closing Thoughts
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Our Tillicum community is strong because of you. Let’s work together to ensure every student finishes the year strong—academically, socially, and emotionally—the Tillicum Way!
With appreciation,
Jason Hill
